More about the programmes

Medical and Pharmaceutical Drug Innovation

Are you interested in the pathophysiology of diseases and the development of new therapies and drugs? Do you want to study the development and selection of drugs and how they work?

Medical and Pharmaceutical Drug Innovation (MPDI) is a selective two-year master programme that prepares you for a career in (bio)medical research as a leading scientist. MPDI offers small-group interactive teaching in an international and multidisciplinary environment. You will be challenged with exciting cutting-edge research and theories. We will train you to become a highly qualified (bio)medical researcher.

As a student you can focus on your interest and aspirations by participating in one of the following tracks after the first semester:

- Oncology
- Medical Neurosciences and neurological diseases
- Infection and immunity
- Medical nutrition and metabolic diseases
- Medical system biology and bioinformatics
- Drug innovation

You will learn how to creatively apply knowledge and become a critical and analytical scientist. Situated in the University Medical Center Groningen, MPDI offers excellent facilities for (pharmaco)genomics, proteomics and in vivo(animal) and in vitro(cell) imaging. MPDI is unique in the sense that the programme offers a direct interplay between medical and pharmaceutical research.

Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology

Can mindfulness support people in dealing with chronic disease? What is the relationship between depressive symptoms and cardiovascular disease? How do people function at work having survived cancer?

Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology is a selective two-year research master that focuses on these questions. Students conduct research in the fields of public health, health psychology, epidemiology, and psychiatry.
You will study the reciprocal relationship between the psychological and physical health of adults and children. The central idea is that psychological, biological and social aspects all play a role in any physical condition.

You will be encouraged to engage in research throughout the programme where a strong focus lies on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of somatic and mental health problems. Moreover, Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology is situated in the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), which means that you can benefit from a unique and interesting clinical setting. Classes are taught in small groups by leading scientists.

You will have the opportunity to choose additional courses to suit your particular interests. Your individual development as a researcher is central to the programme. You will be conducting research side by side with scientists who are leading experts in their field. Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology was rated first in its category in the Dutch Higher Education Guide 2017!
